Meet Dr. Spiro Curis, Director of Clinical Research

Dr. Spiro Curis

Dr. Curis joined the ECHO research team in October 2024. He attended the University of Rhode Island for his undergraduate bachelor’s degree in Biological and Health Sciences. He then attended Avalon University School of Medicine for his medical doctorate. He trained in both inpatient and outpatient settings in a number of specialties including Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Vascular Surgery, Urgent Care, Psychiatry, OB/GYN, and Internal Medicine. He is published and co-authored a study in 2022 entitled “Communication and Handoff Errors Within Treatment-Resistant Bipolar I Disorder.”

Dr. Curis has played an integral role supporting many aspects of our clinical research program. He is now serving as Director of Clinical Research, taking the baton from Dr. Susan Johnson who has been instrumental in building ECHO’s research capabilities.

Dr. Curis shares, “At ECHO, our commitment to research is rooted in the belief that tomorrow’s breakthroughs begin with today’s trials. We dedicate ourselves to advancing medicine by bringing cutting-edge clinical studies into the community — making innovative treatments accessible to patients, close to home.”

He explains that the ECHO research team selects trials that are scientifically rigorous, ethically sound, and patient-centered, ensuring both safety and meaningful impact.

He elaborates that beyond conducting studies, “we see research as a responsibility – to improve care, expand options, and contribute to the future of oncology and medicine as a whole.”

ECHO is fortunate to have Dr. Curis as part of our team as we lead the way in clinical research.
