Health Equity and Patient Care: CPAN July Advocacy Chat

Join the Community Oncology Alliance Patient Advocacy Network (CPAN) for a virtual Advocacy Chat to discuss health equity on Wednesday, July 17 at 12 p.m. ET.

When a patient is seeking a diagnosis or being treated for cancer, their health isn’t the only factor to consider. Where a patient lives, their ethnicity, their economic status, and even religious background can affect how, when, and where they can receive treatment. Working with patients to accommodate and address these factors, aka making cancer care more equitable, improves treatment outcomes and quality of life.

Join host Rose Gerber, MS, and guest Richard Martin III, MD, MPH, as they discuss the realities of addressing health equity inside a community oncology clinic, including overcoming language barriers, providing financial assistance for underinsured and economically disadvantaged patients, and understanding cultural norms around cancer treatment. As the medical director of health equity and community engagement at Tennessee Oncology, Dr. Martin works with providers and patients to address these variables and ensure cancer care is affordable and accessible. This event will be part of our virtual CPAN Advocacy Chats series – short, monthly educational webinars on key cancer issues and the policies that impact them. Each month will feature a new topic and special guests joining us. Patients, survivors, caregivers, and other cancer care advocates are all invited to join us for these free, interactive, virtual events!
