Kim Clohecy

Patient Accounts Representative

Nominated by Heather Bernier, January 2025

My Background:

First, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this recognition.  I am honored and blessed to be a part of ECHO.

I have spent all my adult years working in healthcare. From age 18, I spent 26 years as billing manager for a mental health practice, followed by 6 years as program coordinator for people living with HIV. Now, I have been privileged to work with ECHO for almost 2 years.

Why I Chose ECHO Hematology & Oncology:

In 2009, my father was diagnosed with small cell carcinoma and spent the first 25 days of that diagnosis as an inpatient at Backus Hospital.  The care and support that my father and my family received by ECHO physicians and the nurses was above and beyond anything I’d ever experienced or expected.  From then on, there were appointments, chemotherapy, radiation, visits to the ER, more inpatient stays. My mother, siblings and I spent many days sitting with dad, both in the hospital and during his chemo treatments at ECHO.  I was so touched by all the staff and their kind, loving, caring souls that I knew one day this was where I wanted and needed to be.

Making a Positive Difference:

It’s always been in my heart to be kind, caring, and supportive of others. It’s how I was raised. When speaking to our patients, I try talk to them as if they were a member of my family.  Our patients have enough going on in life and shouldn’t have to feel any extra stress thinking that there isn’t anyone out here willing to help them beyond treatment.  I help to the best of my ability and lean on my team, when needed.

What I Enjoy Most About My Role:

I enjoy helping, not only our patients, but the ECHO team, in any way I can!  Teamwork truly does make a big difference!

As part of the billing team, even though we work offsite, I am fortunate to work with an amazing group of individuals. Everyone at ECHO that I’ve gotten to know touches and warms my heart in their own, individual way.  For this, I am so grateful.

What I Do Outside of Work:

Outside of work, I work!  On weekends, for 11 hours each day, I am a caregiver to an elderly lady who is losing her vision.

I also try to make time to spend with family. I’m blessed to still have my mother and grandmother here with me and I have two children and two grandchildren who are my world. Family means everything to me, blood or not!!

Other things I enjoy that bring me peace are the ocean, music, and photography.
