Meet Our Patient Navigator

We are pleased to introduce Courtney, who was recently promoted to the role of Patient Navigator. Courtney has been a valued member of ECHO for 13 years and has served in a variety of positions, including receptionist, clinical scheduler, Medical Assistant (MA), and MA Supervisor.

With her extensive knowledge of our practice, Courtney brings strong clinical expertise and a deep understanding of how to best support our patients, physicians, and the entire ECHO team.

Courtney recently completed the Oncology Patient Navigator Certification through George Washington University and is excited to step into this new role. As a Patient Navigator, she will:

  • Help patients navigate assistance programs and the healthcare system
  • Support patients in addressing psychosocial needs
  • Provide resources and guidance to help patients navigate their diagnosis and care journey

We asked Courtney to share some insight into her background and her role at ECHO.

Uniquely Suited to the Patient Navigator Role

I have been fortunate to work in a variety of roles at ECHO over the past 13 years. During that time, I have served in many roles include the lab, as a receptionist, a medical assistant, and a supervisor. Each of these experiences has given me valuable insight into our practice and a deep understanding of how to work closely with our physicians and support our patients throughout their care.

About the Patient Navigator Role

I truly love my role as a Patient Navigator. My goal is to help individuals navigate the healthcare system by providing guidance and support throughout their medical journey.

Cancer care can often feel overwhelming and confusing. I help new patients understand their insurance coverage, explore financial assistance options, and assist with paperwork or scheduling appointments. I can also help coordinate transportation and connect patients with valuable resources to support their medical, financial, and emotional needs.

What I Love About ECHO

At ECHO, we maintain the highest standards in everything we do—from patient care and research to customer service. What makes ECHO truly special is that we always put our patients first. It is incredibly rewarding to be part of a team that is so dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care.

How I Can Help

Think of me as your “tour guide” at ECHO. I’m here to help you understand what to expect, answer questions, and connect you with the right resources and support along the way. Cancer care can be challenging, and my goal is to make the process as smooth and manageable as possible for you.

Please Don’t Hesitate to Reach Out

I want every patient to feel comfortable reaching out for help. Sometimes it can be difficult to ask, but support is always available. Please let me know how I can assist you.

You can contact me at (860) 886-8362 ext. 296, through the patient portal, or by email at cpiela@echoct.com. I am in the office five days a week, and you are always welcome to stop by or schedule a time to meet.

You are never alone at ECHO.
